This page explains exactly what Knittingtips.net stores in your browser, why, and how to change your mind. It sits alongside our Privacy Policy, which covers the wider question of how personal data is handled.
1. The short version
Nothing that tracks you is loaded until you say yes. The site uses Google Consent Mode v2, so analytics and advertising cookies stay blocked until you accept them in the cookie banner. If you decline, the site keeps working — the calculators, the knitting journal and the row counter do not depend on cookies at all.
2. Strictly necessary storage
This category is always active, because without it the site cannot remember the choice you
just made. It is stored in your browser's localStorage, not sent to a server,
and never used to identify you.

3. Your own project data
The tools on this site save your work so it survives a page reload. This data never leaves your browser — there is no account, no sync and no server copy, which also means we cannot recover it for you if you clear your browser storage.

You can delete all of it at any time by clearing site data for knittingtips.net in your browser settings.
4. Analytics cookies — consent required
If you accept, Google Analytics 4 (gtag.js) is loaded and sets cookies
(typically _ga and _ga_*) that count visits and show which pages
are used. We look at this in aggregate to decide which guides and calculators to improve.
If you decline, the script is never loaded and the cookies are never set.
If you accept, Ahrefs Web Analytics is also loaded. It counts page views for our search analysis and sets no cookies, but it does receive your IP address when it loads — which is why it sits behind the same consent as Google Analytics.
5. Advertising cookies — consent required
Knittingtips.net does not currently serve ads, so no advertising cookies are set on this domain. We plan to enable Google AdSense here. If we do, this section and the privacy policy will be updated first, and the ad script will load only where you have consented — Google and its partners may then set cookies to select and measure ads, including ads based on your previous visits to this and other sites.
You can manage personalized advertising directly with Google at Google Ads Settings, or opt out of a range of third-party vendors at www.aboutads.info.
6. Changing your mind
You can withdraw or change your consent at any time. This reopens the cookie banner so you can choose again:
You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking strictly necessary storage means the site cannot remember your consent choice, so the banner will reappear on every visit.
