Privacy Policy

Last Updated: July 22, 2026

1. Introduction

Your privacy is important to us at Knittingtips.net. This privacy policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal data when you visit our website.

2. What Information We Collect

Knittingtips.net is primarily an information portal. We do not collect personal data such as name or email address unless you actively provide it to us (e.g., via a future contact form).

However, we collect anonymized information about how the website is used to improve our services. This includes:

  • Aggregated statistics on visitor numbers and popular pages.
  • Technical information such as browser type and device type.

3. Legal Basis for Processing

Our use of analytics and advertising cookies is based on your consent, in accordance with Article 6(1)(a) of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Consent is given or declined via the cookie banner shown on your first visit, and can be withdrawn at any time, see section 4. Strictly necessary technical cookies (e.g., to remember your consent choice) are processed on the basis of our legitimate interest in operating the website, in accordance with Article 6(1)(f).

4. Cookies and Analytics Tools

We use cookies and analytics tools to:

  • Remember your preferences (e.g., whether you have accepted the cookie banner).
  • Analyze traffic on our website to improve the user experience. For this, we use the following third-party tools:

Google Tag Manager

We use Google Tag Manager (GTM) to manage and load the analytics script below without editing the site's code directly. GTM itself does not set cookies; the tags it loads only do so to the extent you have consented via our cookie banner (Consent Mode v2).

Google Analytics 4

We use Google Analytics 4 to collect aggregated and anonymized statistics about how the website is used. To protect your privacy, we use "Consent Mode v2", which means that no tracking cookies are placed before you have explicitly given your consent.

Google AdSense and Advertising

Knittingtips.net does not currently serve ads — our sister site, Strikketips.no, does. We plan to enable Google AdSense on this domain once it has been approved by Google. When that happens, third-party vendors, including Google, will use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this or other websites, in the same way described in Strikketips.no's privacy policy, and this section will be updated accordingly. If you visit Strikketips.no, you may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, or opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalized advertising by visiting www.aboutads.info.

You can choose to turn off cookies in your browser, and you can withdraw your consent at any time via our cookie settings. Be aware that restricting cookies may affect the functionality of the website.

5. International Data Transfers

Google, which provides the analytics and advertising tools we use (Google Tag Manager, Google Analytics 4, and Google AdSense), may process data on servers outside the EU/EEA, including in the United States. Google LLC is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, which the European Commission has assessed as providing an adequate level of protection for such transfers. You can find more information in Google's own privacy policy.

6. Your Rights (GDPR)

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), you have the right to:

  • Access the information we have about you.
  • Correction of incomplete or inaccurate data.
  • Deletion of your data.
  • Restriction of processing.
  • Data portability, i.e., receiving your data in a structured format.
  • Objecting to processing based on legitimate interest.
  • Lodging a complaint with a data protection authority, see the contact details in section 9.

Since we currently do not store personally identifiable data, most of these rights will in practice be upheld by the fact that we have no data to disclose or delete.

7. Data Retention

We do not ourselves store personal data beyond what is necessary for the analytics purposes described above, and we do not maintain our own database of visitor data. Google Analytics 4 automatically deletes user data in accordance with Google's default retention settings. Data you store in your browser via localStorage (see section 10) is kept until you delete it yourself or clear your browser's storage.

8. Changes to the Policy

We may update this privacy policy as needed. The latest version will always be available on this page.

9. Data Controller and Contact

10. Local Storage (localStorage)

Our calculators and knitting diary store data directly in your browser via localStorage. This data:

  • Is stored only on your own device
  • Is never sent to our server or third parties
  • Is not accessible to us or others
  • Can be deleted at any time by clearing the browser's data
