About unit conversion for knitters
When the pattern or ball band you have is metric — measurements in centimeters, yarn labeled in meters and grams — this is the tool. It turns each of those into inches, yards and ounces, and back again.
It converts one kind of unit at a time — length to length, weight to weight. Turning a weight of yarn into a length depends on the yarn, so for that use the yardage calculator, which reads the length per skein from your ball band.

- 1 yard = 0.9144 meters

How many centimeters in an inch?
1 inch is exactly 2.54 centimeters. To go from centimeters to inches, divide by 2.54.
How many meters in a yard?
1 yard is exactly 0.9144 meters, so a yard is a little shorter than a meter. To go from meters to yards, divide by 0.9144 — 100 m is about 109 yd.
How many grams in an ounce?
1 ounce is about 28.35 grams, so a 100 g skein is about 3.5 oz and a 50 g ball about 1.75 oz.
