Knitting Tool
Interactive Row Counter
Count rows and pattern repeats, and keep a checklist of the rows that need something done.
How to use the row counter
- 1 Quick counter
Tap the large circle to add a row. On phones that support it, it vibrates on each tap; you can turn that off.
- 2 Pattern checklist
Switch tabs to build a checklist of rows with your own notes.
- 3 Auto-saving
The count and checklist are saved in this browser, so you can pick up where you left off.

Why use a digital row counter?
We lose track on paper mid-row. We use the counter for plain knitting and repeats, and the checklist for the stretches of a pattern where something happens on particular rows — shaping, a chart change, a buttonhole.
- Quick counting: one tap per row, and a minus button for mistakes.
- Repeat tracking: enter a repeat length and the counter starts over at 1 after each repeat and counts the repeats done.
- No account: your counts and notes stay in this browser on this device.
We type a pattern's shaping rows into the checklist before we start, so the reminders are there when we reach them.
What does a row counter do?
It keeps count of the rows or rounds you have knit, so you know where you are in the pattern. Set a repeat length and it also counts how many repeats you have finished.
How does this row counter differ from a standard tally counter?
Besides the counter, it has a checklist tab where you add rows with your own notes (e.g. 'Increase 1 stitch at each edge') and check them off as you knit.
Will my count and checklist be lost if I close the page?
No. The count and the checklist are saved in your browser's local storage on this device, so you can close the tab and come back to them. They don't sync to other devices, and clearing your browser data deletes them.
Can I manage multiple project counters at the same time?
This counter keeps one count. To keep notes on several projects — pattern, yarn, needle, gauge and status — use our Knitting Journal.
