Backward Loop Cast-On

Backward loop cast-on is the simplest cast-on method, twisting yarn around the thumb and lifting the loop onto the needle. Quick but not very elastic.

Explanation

Backward loop cast-on (also called e-loop cast-on) is the fastest and easiest way to cast on stitches: you twist the yarn around your thumb into a loop and lift it onto the needle. The method only requires one needle and one hand movement, but produces a loose and uneven edge compared to long-tail cast-on. It is therefore mainly used for adding new stitches mid-project, such as for buttonholes or thumb gussets, rather than as the cast-on for an entire project.
