Ombré / Gradient Yarn

Ombré (gradient) yarn gradually shifts from one color or shade to another along the skein, creating a smooth flow of color through the knitted fabric.

Explanation

Ombré, or gradient, yarn is dyed so the color changes gradually and smoothly from one shade or hue to another along the entire length of the skein, unlike variegated yarn which jumps abruptly between multiple colors. This gives knitted fabric a flowing, gradual color shift from top to bottom of a garment, without the more chaotic color patches that strongly variegated yarn can produce. Ombré yarn is especially well suited to simple projects in stockinette or garter stitch, where the color progression itself takes center stage.
